This evening, the music will engulf the listeners in a whole palette of diverse emotions. The concert will begin with the famous “Adagio” of Samuel Barber, regarded by many as the saddest piece in the whole history of music. Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major emanates joy and frivolity. The oboe concerto of Henri Tomasi (the French composer from the XXth century) combines both melancholic and vigorous parts. He utilized different musical genres, being the most comfortable within the style of eclecticism. He alluded to the themes related to his beloved Corsica from which he originated, exotic elements and even the Gregorian chant and medieval dance music. The piece allows us to appreciate the tonal and technical versatility of the oboe, which will be played by Agata Piotrowska-Bartoszek – the first oboe of the Łódź Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. She combines the role of an orchestral musician with many artistic and pedagogical activities: performing as a solo and chamber musician in Poland and abroad, giving lectures in her alma mater – The Łódź Academy of Music (currently as a professor), as well as conducting courses and workshops for young oboe players. During the period between the years 2000 and 2015 she was the first oboe player and soloist of The Grand Theater in Łódź. Her playing can be heard on numerous album releases.
