Mieczysław Karłowicz was one of the biggest individuals of Polish music, a creator with exceptional sensitivity and a great intuition for orchestration. Musicologists are still wondering what else he could have come up with had he not been taken by an avalanche in the Tatra mountains under the Mały Kościelec summit at the age of just 33 years old. Until that moment, Karłowicz had managed to compose a comparatively small body of work: six symphonic poems which, together with the ”Rebirth” symphony, had earned him the reputation of the best symphonic composer in Poland at the time, the virtuoso violin concerto in A Major and solo art songs. The Karłowicz concerto will be performed by Wojciech Niedziółka, the most acclaimed Polish contestant of the XVI International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań (2022), the laureate of the ”Coryphaeus of Polish Music” prize and the graduate of the Łódź Academy of Music. Karłowicz’s art songs, originally written for just the voice and piano, will be played in full symphony orchestra arrangements created by Maciej Koczur. The vocal part will be sung by Aga Zaryan, one of the most excellent Polish jazz vocalists, endowed with a warm, matte voice tone and exceptional artistic courage. The program will also include ”The Song of the Falcon” by Grzegorz Fitelberg – a director and composer who was a contemporary of Karłowicz and an enthusiastic promoter of Polish music.

The concert will be elevated by the live visualisations created by Wojciech Glądys with the use of artificial intelligence.

Compere: Andrzej Zieliński (The Polish Radio).

At 18:15 we invite you to the Henryk Czyż Chamber Room for a pre-concert meeting led by Andrzej Zieliński.
