Compere: Patrycja Pawłowicz (Radio Lodz)

This incredible combination of the classical mass with the Argentinian tango was created by the Argentinian composer and pianist Mártin Palmeri (born in 1965). His “Misa a Buenos Aires” also known as the “Misatango” utilizes the stylistic properties typical for this dance: the strong expression, the ordering function of the rhythm, pronounced accents and the tone colour of the bandoneon. The composer makes particular allusions to AstorPiazzola’s tango nuevo while combining it with elements of church music such as well-developed fugues. The artist lineup is akin to authentic Argentinian tango orchestras. The premiere of the piece occurred in 1996 in Buenos Aires. Currently, the mass is performed live in numerous countries in the whole world, often with the composer playing the piano. In October of 2013 Pope Francis listened to the piece during the International Festival of Sacred Music and Art in Rome. The Łódź concert will feature the mezzo-soprano vocalist Arpi Sinanyan, a laureate of the Arthur Rubinstein Łódź Philharmonic award at the XIIth International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Warsaw. The program will also include short pieces by Brazilian composers Alberto Nepomuceno and Antonio Carlos Gomes as well as “La oración del Torero” (“The Prayer of the Matador”) by the Spanish composer Joaquín Turina.

At 6:15 PM we invite you to the Henryk Czyż Chamber Hall for a pre-concert meeting led by Patrycja Pawłowicz.
