The name “Buenos Aires” literally translates to “good air” or “fortuitous winds”. It refers to the moderate climate and elegant atmosphere of the capital of Argentina which is sometimes also called “the Paris of South America”. Those who walk the city are enamoured with its cosmopolitan nature, the eclectic architecture and the richness of its culture, including its musical side. However, Argentina is quite far, while the Łódź Philharmonic is much closer. During the concert entitled “A stroll through Buenos Aires” the listeners will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the city, especially its signature tango. We will hear compositions of Astor Piazzola, the most famous Argentinian composer and the creator of the tango nuevo. Carlos Gardel was another Argentinian who popularized the tango with his singing (“Por una cabeza”). The piece “Adios Muchachos” was the most famous piece from the acumen of his compatriot Julia César Sanders. Sebastián Piana was the creator of tangoes used in films (“Milonga sentimental”). The tenth muse was also the cause for the creation of the “Cafetin de Buenos Aires” with the music of Mariano Mores. Gerardi Matos Rodriguez gained his fame thanks to the “La cumparsita” tango, whose title is more well-known than the name of its author and even appears in…Sławomir Mrożek’s drama. These pieces and more with many others will be used to create the atmosphere of Buenos Aires in the performance of the Bratislava ensemble Tango Virtuosi. Their playing will be complemented by dancers Karol Brüll and Viktoria Bolender who will perform this famous Argentinian dance.
