Urszula Kryger, one of the most acclaimed Polish singers, will perform a recital consisting of pieces by Polish composers. The artist is a graduate of the Łódź University of Music where she currently lectures as a titular professor. She has performed, among others, in the Semperoper in Drezno and the La Scala in Milan. She has a passion for chamber music, especially that which comes from Poland. She impresses with her extraordinary sensitivity, restraint of her interpretations and the perfection of her performances. This was noticed in particular by the capitula of the Fryderyki award which awarded her the prize numerous times. This time Urszula Kryger will perform pieces of composers that have connections to Łódź. She chose the Cinq Melodies (1927) and the Six songs for voice and piano, both composed by the Łódź-native composer Aleksander Tansman. The Cinq Melodies combine neoclassical music with elements of jazz and folk while the Six songs have more lyrical characteristics. Paweł Klecki was another composer born in Łódź. As a violinist he gladly composed for this instrument. However, he also composed (among others) three symphonies and a few collections of songs (we will hear three of the songs from his Op. 15). Moreover, the program will include pieces of Ludomir Różycki, who is most known for his operas (“Casanova” and others) and Karol Szymanowski: his “Love songs of Hafiz” combine an oriental sound with the Polish version of impressionism.
